The Left Front announced its candidates for five of the six assembly bypolls in West Bengal, scheduled for November 13. These bypolls are necessitated by the resignation of MLAs who secured victory in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
Contesting candidates include Forward Bloc's Arun Kumar Barma from Sitai, RSP's Padam Oraon from Madarihat, CPI(ML)'s Debajyoti Mazumdar from Naihati, CPI's Mani Kuntal Khamrui from Medinipur, and CPI(M)'s Debkanti Mahanti from Taldangra. The announcement for the Haroa constituency is pending.
The ruling TMC had captured five of these seats in the 2021 assembly polls, with the exception of Madarihat which was under BJP's control. The Left Front did not win any seats in the previous assembly elections in West Bengal.
