Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, reelected by parliament on Monday, has committed to enforcing stricter regulations on the use of political funds, following a significant loss for his coalition in last month's elections.

The Liberal Democratic Party, alongside its partner Komeito, lost its majority in the powerful Lower House, a situation attributed to voter dissatisfaction over financial misconduct by Ishiba's party. Emphasizing a return to people-focused governance, Ishiba pledged to empathize with citizens' concerns while pursuing political and party reforms.

As a new parliament session began to address leadership, Ishiba defeated opposition leader Yoshihiko Noda in the first runoff in 30 years. Upholding continuity, Ishiba reappointed key cabinet members and advocated enhancing Japan's defense capabilities amid regional threats while promising better engagement with opposition parties.
