AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday criticized the construction of a police post near the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, implicating the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of nurturing a 'communal mindset.' Owaisi argued this is part of a broader strategy to create suspicion and monitor Muslim areas through CCTV cameras and police outposts.
In comments to ANI, Owaisi questioned why a government capable of building police outposts near historical mosques could not provide fundamental amenities such as education and healthcare. He cited empirical studies exposing the lack of services in Muslim-majority areas, accusing the state of discrimination.
Owaisi referred to a study by Paul Lovosad of Dartmouth College, MIT, revealing significant discrimination against Muslims, particularly under the current government. He pointed out concerning dropout rates among Muslim women and the scarcity of graduates within the community, demanding action.
Owaisi challenged the government, stating, "If resources exist to construct a police outpost, why not build schools or hospitals? Dropout and illiteracy rates are high among Muslims, and health issues persist. Instead of fostering development, communal suspicion is heightened through actions like these."
Amid ongoing construction of the police post, Rapid Action Force (RAF) ensures security. Sambhal's ASP Shrish Chandra indicated the construction is progressing swiftly to accommodate security forces enduring cold conditions outdoors, with completion expected soon.
This police post initiative follows recent violence during an Archaeological Survey of India survey at a nearby mosque, resulting in casualties and injuries among police and locals.
