In a reserved yet significant response, China emphasized that their country should not become an issue in the bilateral discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting, held in Washington, concentrated on enhancing defence cooperation and reinforcing the Indo-Pacific region's security and prosperity.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stressed that Asia-Pacific should prioritize peaceful development instead of becoming an arena for geopolitical confrontations. China advocates for international relations that do not impinge on its interests, promoting peace, stability, and regional prosperity.

In the backdrop of these talks, the Indo-Pacific region, which is rich in contested territories like the South China Sea, remains a zone of strategic concern for China, especially with the strengthening of the Quad alliance comprising the U.S., India, Japan, and Australia.
