The Indian purchasing plans of F-35 stealth fighters from the United States, as hinted by President Donald Trump, have sparked a wave of criticism from Congress leader Randeep Surjewala. Surjewala questions Prime Minister Modi's considerations before agreeing to this deal.
Surjewala points out the lack of consultation with the Indian Air Force and other defense experts, in addition to no recommendations from the Defense Acquisition Council. He also expressed concerns about the high cost and operational flaws of the F-35, suggesting it's against the country's interests.
Further criticisms include the absence of a technology transfer agreement, which other countries like Russia offer. Surjewala calls on the government to conduct exhaustive reviews by defense experts, hinting at the geopolitical and financial stakes.
