The Assam Assembly was thrown into disarray on Friday following an attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain in the Nagaon district. Uproar from the opposition Congress resulted in two adjournments as they demanded a pause in proceedings to address the issue. The government eventually agreed to a thorough investigation.
As the session began, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia highlighted the incident, criticizing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for not condemning the attack. Hussain, en route to a party meeting, was attacked by masked individuals reportedly shouting slogans against him. Though unharmed, his security officers sustained minor injuries.
Despite initial refusals for an adjournment, escalating protests prompted Assembly Speaker Daimary to intermittently suspend proceedings. The Information Minister later assured action against the perpetrators, while opposition members continued pressing for commitment from the government to prevent future occurrences of such attacks.
