Language Tensions Escalate: Tamil Nadu Resists NEP Push

The language dispute between the BJP-led Centre and the DMK in Tamil Nadu has intensified. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged Tamil Nadu to embrace the National Education Policy (NEP), while DMK Chief M K Stalin firmly opposed the Hindi-focused trilingual policy, warning against federal imposition and protecting Tamil culture.

The ongoing language dispute between the BJP-led Union government and the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu saw escalation on Friday. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged the DMK to prioritize educational reforms over political interests, calling on Tamil Nadu to implement the National Education Policy (NEP).

However, the DMK, led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, remains resolute in its opposition to the three-language policy, which includes Hindi. Stalin reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Tamil culture and interests against any central imposition, recalling the state's historic resistance to Hindi imposition during the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation.

The State's Deputy CM, Udhayanidhi Stalin, emphasized the demand for due central funds while maintaining the two-language policy of Tamil and English. The confrontation has sparked online campaigns and political rhetoric, underscoring the sensitive nature of linguistic identity in Tamil Nadu.
