The Uttarakhand government's Home Department has decisively quashed rumors concerning the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), clarifying misinformation circulating on social media. Authorities stated that suggestions of outsiders obtaining domicile certificates through UCC were unfounded and misleading.

Official statements stressed that the UCC contains no provisions linking marriage registration with residence certificates, warning of legal repercussions under section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for spreading misinformation. The public is urged to rely solely on verified information from official sources.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the UCC's role in regulating live-in relationships to prevent violence, saying efforts aim to enhance transparency while respecting privacy. Implemented on January 27, 2025, the UCC in Uttarakhand seeks to unify personal laws across various domains.
