In a significant political development in Kerala, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured victory in 15 out of 30 contested wards during the recent local body bypolls. The opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) emerged victorious in 12 wards, according to official results from the State Election Commission (SEC).
The bypolls, conducted across 13 districts, also saw three wards won by independent candidates, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) failed to make any inroads. Highlighting an apparent shift in voter sentiment, the UDF increased its seat tally from 10 to 12.
Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan lauded the results, attributing them to a growing anti-incumbency wave against the current Left government, alleged to be mired in corruption. He emphasized that these wins strengthen the UDF's position ahead of upcoming local body elections.
