In a pivotal announcement, Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog today unveiled the 2025-26 state budget in the assembly. This fiscal blueprint marks the last comprehensive budget under the current governance before the 2026 elections.
The budget presentation, her fifth under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's administration, commenced at 11:30 am. Neog highlighted that the budget would focus on realistic financial projections, aiming to cater to both the aspirations of the citizens and prudent fiscal management.
Chief Minister Sarma previously emphasized infrastructure, agricultural support, and enhancing social welfare in their fiscal strategies. Notably, Assam's economy has seen a notable increase in its GDP contribution to the national economy, growing from 1.65% in 2016-17 to 1.81% recently, reflecting significant developmental strides.
