On Monday, Congress workers in Madhya Pradesh staged a significant protest in Bhopal, voicing their concerns over unfulfilled promises to farmers. The demonstration, led by State Congress President Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, took place at Rang Mahal square, aiming to march towards the state assembly.
Police employed water cannons to disperse the passionate crowd. Patwari spoke to reporters, asserting that it is the Congress's duty to challenge the BJP's unmet commitments to women, farmers, and youth, specifically calling for a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 3100 for rice and Rs 2700 for wheat, along with Rs 6000 as another requirement. Despite the state's Agriculture Minister's silence on these issues, the Congress has resolved to intensify its protests across mandis if procurement issues persist.
Umang Singhar reiterated that Congress stands firmly with farmers, promising persistent advocacy from grassroots to assembly halls. Criticizing the Kisan Sangh's inaction despite allied interests with the BJP, Congress MLA Sachin Yadav emphasized past and ongoing efforts to secure farmers' rights. Yadav highlighted the BJP's failure to meet its electoral commitments outlined in its Sankalp Patra, accusing the government of trying to suppress dissent through the use of police force.
