The gold smuggling scandal involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao has ignited a political firestorm in Karnataka. Accused of smuggling gold worth Rs 12 crore from Dubai, her arrest has led to a fierce exchange of allegations between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
The BJP claims an influential minister is shielding Rao, with state President B Y Vijayendra pointing out potential government involvement. On the other hand, the Congress has countered by highlighting a 12-acre land allotment to Rao by the BJP for a steel plant earlier this year.
As the case unfolds, the CBI has entered the investigation, promising to reveal the truth. State Home Minister G Parameshwara asserts that the ongoing probe will uncover the facts, while BJP warns against any attempted covering up. The arrest of a hotelier's son by the DRI further complicates the narrative.
