Elevating Prestige: A Call to Re-Rank India's MPs

Rajya Sabha AAP member Ashok Kumar Mittal advocated for a higher rank for Members of Parliament in the Indian protocol list, emphasizing their representation and legislative roles. Currently ranked 21st, Mittal suggested a shift to the 11th position, citing the MPs’ critical roles in presidential elections and constitutional amendments.

In a fervent plea, Rajya Sabha AAP member Ashok Kumar Mittal has urged the government to elevate Members of Parliament in India's protocol list. MPs currently hold the 21st rank, but Mittal argues for a higher status due to their significant duties in legislation and electoral processes.

Highlighting their role, Mittal pointed out that Lok Sabha MPs represent around 25 lakh people each, while Rajya Sabha MPs represent about 60 lakh. He noted MPs' crucial influence in presidential and vice-presidential elections and their power to amend the Constitution.

Mittal's appeal coincided with discussions from other members, addressing concerns over off-shore mining and the affordability of cancer treatment. Collectively, these issues underscore the MPs' involvement in impactful national decisions.
