The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the premises of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as part of an investigation into an alleged liquor scam involving his son. The raids were said to be politically motivated by Congress leaders amid heightened tensions during Parliament's Budget session.
Over 14 locations in Durg district, including the homes of Baghel's son, Chaitanya Baghel, and his associate, were searched under anti-money laundering laws. The raids led to the seizure of approximately Rs 30 lakh, but no gold or jewelry was confiscated, according to officials.
Congress denounced the raids as a conspiracy to divert attention from serious political issues, while ED maintained the operation was necessary due to significant losses to the state exchequer from the purported liquor scam.
