The Karnataka gold smuggling case involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao has prompted Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to refute rumors of ministerial involvement, calling them 'political gossips'. Rao was apprehended with gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore upon her arrival in Bengaluru.
In response to media inquiries, Shivakumar clarified that the state government is not involved, and central agencies, including the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, are managing the investigation. He emphasized that no ministers are implicated and the inquiry will proceed according to the law.
Ranya Rao, stepdaughter of a top police official, also faced additional seizures of gold and cash from her residence. The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed an FIR, intensifying the examination of this high-profile case.
