Odisha Assembly witnessed significant uproar as Speaker Surama Padhy suspended senior Congress member Taraprasad Bahinipati for a week. The decision was made after an altercation between ruling BJP and opposition members erupted in the House.
Bahinipati was penalized for his 'misconduct and unruly behavior', following a protest during which he tried to climb the Speaker's podium and disrupted Urban Development Minister K C Mohapatra's speech. He had previously damaged a microphone on the podium.
The suspension sparked dissent among opposition members, with Bahinipati criticizing the Speaker's decision as biased, accusing her of ignoring assaults from BJP members towards him. Opposition parties, including Congress and BJD, condemned the suspension.
