Political Tensions Surge as Centre Bans Two Kashmir Groups

The Centre's decision to ban Kashmir's Awami Action Committee and Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen has sparked significant condemnation. The Indian government's decision to impose a five-year ban on the Awami Action Committee (AAC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM) has ignited controversy in the region. These groups were alleged to be involved in anti-national activities, supporting terrorism, and promoting secessionist agendas.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of AAC and a prominent separatist leader in Kashmir, condemned the ban as an attempt to silence the truth. In a post on X, he described the decision as part of a broader policy of intimidation against Kashmir, referencing historical grievances since August 2019.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti criticized the ban, urging the Jammu and Kashmir government to intervene and halt these measures. She emphasized that democracy extends beyond elections, advocating for the protection of fundamental rights and cautioning against exacerbating tensions in the region.
