In a scathing remark on Wednesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray criticized the Maharashtra government's budgetary announcements, particularly condemning the Ladki Behen Scheme. Thackeray labeled the policy as "shameless" for failing to meet electoral promises, with beneficiaries receiving only Rs. 1500 despite previous assurances for increments.
Thackeray expressed his disappointment over efforts to reduce the number of women beneficiaries, raising concerns about the government's commitment to women's empowerment. Meanwhile, Deputy CM and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar allocated Rs 36,000 crore for the scheme, claiming financial support for over 2.53 crore women.
The budget presentation also outlined Maharashtra's ambitious financial planning, aiming for substantial economic growth. With a total expenditure of Rs 7.20 lakh crore, the plan emphasizes infrastructure, industrial development, and investment attraction. Initiatives target employment growth, enhanced foreign investments, and infrastructure improvements, striving towards a 'Developed India, Developed Maharashtra'.
