Rodrigo Duterte, the former president of the Philippines, was transported to the Netherlands on a chartered plane amid allegations of murder and crimes against humanity.
Duterte, now 79, is set to appear before the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where charges related to his campaign against drugs will be addressed. The campaign allegedly involved death squads and numerous extrajudicial killings.
The former leader's overnight flight from Manila included a refueling stop in Dubai before he was moved to a detention facility on the Dutch coast. An initial court hearing is expected in the coming days, marking a crucial step in the judicial proceedings against him.
