Tamil Nadu's Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan has voiced strong criticism against the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, labeling its implementation as impossible due to insufficient funding and infrastructure. He praised the state's existing education system for its inclusive approach, attributing Tamil Nadu’s educational success to this commitment.

Thiagarajan accused BJP representatives of avoiding critical educational discourse by personalizing debates about ministers' children's schooling. He recalled past educational policies under Indira Gandhi, noting that unlike NEP 2020, they were debated and legislated properly. He also highlighted issues in implementing language policies across non-Hindi-speaking states.

Further criticizing the central government, Thiagarajan described its approach as overreaching and expressed concerns about future representation imbalances due to economic disparities between regions. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin echoed these concerns, accusing the NEP of endangering the state’s education system and being more about promoting Hindi than national development.
