The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revived its assault on Congress figures Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, utilizing revelations from a journalist's book. The party demands their resignation as MPs, asserting they must clarify alleged connections with the infamous Italian middleman Ottavio Quattrocchi.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia highlighted the exposé by Chitra Subramaniam, alleging that Quattrocchi exploited close ties with the Gandhis to influence defense contracts. The book, 'Bofors Gate', outlines these alleged transgressions, which have stirred fresh debate over historical corruption claims in Indian defense dealings.
While the Congress has yet to respond publicly, Bhatia ramped up accusations, referencing the 2005 defrosting of Quattrocchi's bank accounts during a Congress-led government. The BJP's narrative stems from longstanding claims of nepotism, leading to demands for accountability as the political skirmish unfolds.
