Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Baby Rani Maurya voiced strong condemnation of comments made by a Muslim cleric against Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. Maurya deemed the remarks an affront not just to Yadav, but to all Indian women and their cultural dignity.
During a television debate, cleric Maulana Sajid Rashidi allegedly criticized Yadav's attire after she visited a Delhi mosque, prompting an FIR. At the UP BJP office in Lucknow, Maurya highlighted the unacceptable nature of the comments, despite differing ideologies with Yadav.
Maurya criticized Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's silence, calling it a shameful support of fundamentalist views for political gain. She added that the issue affects all Indian women and highlighted the silence of other political figures such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
