In a dramatic escalation of political tensions in Kerala, CPI(M) secretary M V Govindan has issued a legal notice to Chennai businessman Muhammed Sharshad. The businessman accused Govindan and other party members of engaging in financial irregularities and corrupt practices.
The allegations were first brought to light in a letter Sharshad sent to the CPI(M) politburo, linking the party leaders to an NRI businessman named Rajesh Krishna. Sharshad later reinforced his claims through media interviews, implicating other prominent figures, including Minister M B Rajesh and former minister T M Thomas Isaac.
Govindan's legal notice demands Sharshad retract his statements, which are deemed false and defamatory, and apologize publicly. The CPI(M) leader warned of legal action, citing the damage to his reputation, if Sharshad does not comply within three days.
