Tensions Rise Over Controversial Constitution Amendment Bill

Congress and opposition leaders criticized a proposed Constitution Amendment Bill targeting ministers with serious charges, labeling it draconian and diversionary. On Wednesday, Congress MP KC Venugopal fiercely criticized the central government for introducing a contentious Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at removing Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and other ministers facing serious criminal charges. Venugopal dismissed the bill as a "draconian law" and accused the government of using diversionary tactics to distract from alleged electoral misconduct and ongoing political campaigns in Bihar.

The opposition's resistance was echoed by CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar who labeled the ruling National Democratic Alliance as the "National Destruction Alliance." He condemned what he perceives as the destruction of constitutional values, criticizing the ruling party's alleged manipulation of charges through government agencies to target opposition leaders.

Amidst this political backdrop, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, presented multiple bills in the Lok Sabha, including the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill. The proposal seeks to facilitate the removal of ministers accused of severe offenses. At the same time, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee took to social media, accusing the government of prioritizing power accumulation over national welfare while neglecting constitutional duties.
