On Monday, Congress leader V D Satheeshan confirmed the suspension of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, citing allegations of misconduct involving women and a transgender person. This decision emphasizes Congress's dedication to upholding women's dignity and exemplifies their proactive stance against inappropriate behavior within political ranks.
Satheeshan declared that this marked a historic moment, being the first instance of such severe disciplinary action by a political party in Kerala. He highlighted that Mamkoottathil resigned as Youth Congress State President mere hours after the allegations surfaced, even in the absence of formal complaints. The party took this step after extensive deliberations and consultations with women leaders.
The Leader of Opposition also criticized other parties for inaction against leaders facing similar allegations and condemned the cyber attacks targeting women leaders, labeling them as a disturbing trend initiated by CPI(M). The Congress will later decide on Mamkoottathil's participation in Assembly activities.
