The Jharkhand Assembly descended into turmoil on Monday as lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition factions clashed in protest, forcing Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato to adjourn the session three times.

Opposition BJP and their allies vehemently demanded a CBI inquiry into the encounter of tribal leader Surya Hansda, as well as the return of land proposed for a hospital project to farmers. Simultaneously, coalition members from the JMM and Congress criticized the electoral roll revisions in Bihar and the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The session ended with the BJP staging a walkout over unresolved issues, yet the House successfully passed a supplementary budget amounting to Rs 4,296.62 crore by voice vote.
