The ongoing political discord in Kerala has intensified as CPI, the second-largest coalition partner in the ruling LDF, has firmly opposed the state's decision to join the Centre’s PM SHRI scheme. Despite Education Minister V Sivankutty's announcement, key political figures express dissatisfaction with the perceived alignment with the NEP.

CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam voiced concerns about the designated central funds being contingent upon the full implementation of the NEP, which aligns with the central government's policies. Both CPI and CPI(M) have united in their stance against this perceived RSS agenda being imposed in the state.

The opposition, with figures like AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, criticized the state government's policy shift. They argue that embedding communal politics within the PM SHRI scheme undermines Kerala's political integrity. Meanwhile, BJP leader V Muraleedharan has urged the state to embrace national educational progress rather than adhere to regional political traditions.
