The opposition INDIA bloc has announced Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), as their candidate for the chief minister's seat in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. The declaration was made during a press conference that saw representation from all coalition partners.

Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, speaking at the event, expressed that the decision had full backing from the party's influential figures, including Rahul Gandhi and national president Mallikarjun Kharge. This endorsement marks a significant moment in Yadav's political career.

In a strategic move to ensure representation of diverse communities, Gehlot also revealed that Mukesh Sahni, leader of Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), would be appointed as one of the deputy chief ministers, alongside another leader representing the backward classes, should the INDIA bloc form the government.
