The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its support for the National Conference (NC) in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for the next day. This strategic move was announced by PDP's leader Mehbooba Mufti during a press briefing on Thursday.
'We have decided to give support to the NC and vote for their candidates,' Mufti stated, emphasizing that this decision serves the broader aim of keeping the BJP at bay. Despite NC not being PDP's preferred choice, Mufti insisted that the greater good motivated this support.
Mufti explained that the decision stemmed from discussions with the PDP leadership and its MLAs, following NC's request for collaboration. Further, Mufti received a personal plea from NC president Farooq Abdullah through a phone call, and NC's Rajya Sabha candidate Shammi Oberoi met her to solicit her backing.
