The deceased, 57-year-old Pradeep Kar, reportedly left a note stating "NRC is responsible for my death". Police say Kar was found hanging in his home, and preliminary investigations revealed he had been severely stressed due to concerns over NRC.

Mamata Banerjee publicly criticized what she called the BJP's "politics of fear and division" and vowed that Bengal would resist and protect against NRC implementations, affirming the state's dedication to safeguarding citizens' rights over divisive policies.
