Daylight Saving Debate: Stalled Time Change Legislation

The U.S. Senate once again failed to reach consensus on making daylight saving time permanent. Despite previous support, including from former President Donald Trump, the effort hit a roadblock with opposition from some senators. The time change debate has been ongoing, with no resolution in sight.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate revisited the stalled initiative to make daylight saving time permanent, a move aimed at ending the practice of changing clocks twice a year. However, consensus remains elusive.

Senator Rick Scott and several other senators advocated for the bill, which had seen unanimous approval back in March 2022. Yet, Senator Tom Cotton voiced opposition, hindering any expedited passing of the bill.

The debate around daylight saving time has long captured congressional attention, even gaining backing from former President Donald Trump. Despite a legislative hearing this year, the issue remains unresolved as standard time is set to resume in the U.S. on Sunday.
