The U.S. Treasury Department has removed sanctions from Bosnian Serb nationalist leader Milorad Dodik, his close associates, and affiliated companies. While the Office of Foreign Assets Control did not specify reasons for lifting the prohibitions, Serb officials have been reported pursuing an amicable relationship with the U.S., despite keeping ties with Russia.

Dodik, the former president of Bosnia's autonomous Serb Republic, faced sanctions since 2017 for violating the Dayton peace treaty. Despite a court banning him from politics, Dodik expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for reversing the sanctions. He described the decision as a moral and legal victory for the Serb Republic.

Although the Bosnian Serb lawmakers appointed a temporary president following Dodik's disqualification, he continues to fulfill presidential duties. In response, the U.S. State Department acknowledged that recent actions could stabilize Bosnia and pave the way for a U.S.-Serb Republic partnership. Despite the political shifts, Dodik remains committed to his secessionist goals.
