In a remarkable journey from cricket pitch to political arena, Mohammad Azharuddin, former Indian cricket captain, has been sworn in as a minister in the Telangana Cabinet.

Azharuddin's cricket career took a downturn due to a 2000 match-fixing scandal, receiving a life ban by the BCCI. However, the Andhra Pradesh High Court later overturned the ban in 2012, declaring it illegal.

Transitioning into politics, Azharuddin joined Congress in 2009, winning a seat in the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. Despite unsuccessful bids in later elections, he remains an influential figure in Telangana politics, recently nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota, pending approval.
