China Calls Sheikh Hasina Death Sentence an 'Internal Affair'

China has described the death sentence issued against Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an internal matter of Bangladesh. The verdict was passed by Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal citing 'crimes against humanity.' China remains committed to fostering good relations with Bangladesh.

In a recent development, China has officially stated that the death sentence handed to former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is an internal affair of Bangladesh. The verdict, given in absentia by Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal, was related to 'crimes against humanity' during student protests last year.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, emphasized the country's stance of non-interference, reaffirming Beijing's commitment to maintaining good relations with Bangladesh. She also expressed hope for the nation's stability and development.

Sheikh Hasina, aged 78, has been residing in India since fleeing Bangladesh amid widespread protests. Alongside Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also received a death sentence under similar charges.
