Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, has levied serious allegations against the state administration, accusing it of manipulating electoral rolls amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Adhikari claims senior officials are deliberately retaining ineligible names, including Bangladeshi infiltrators, in the voter list.
Speaking in Siliguri, Adhikari criticized the Election Commission for their slow response and highlighted reliance on the state machinery, which he alleges is involved in fraudulent activities. However, he welcomed recent EC intervention, appointing observers such as retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta, to ensure fair practices in the electoral roll revision process.
On a different note, Adhikari visited Indian cricketer Richa Ghosh in Siliguri, praising her for her outstanding performance in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Meanwhile, a row erupted over BJP rally arrangements in Cooch Behar, with police raising objections, leading to accusations of partisan actions by law enforcers.
