Voting for the bypolls in 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) began on Sunday morning under stringent security measures.

The electoral process, which is set to end by 5.30 pm, is expected to provide insights into the voters' current sentiments, following the BJP's sweeping victory in the assembly elections earlier this year.

In preparation, the State Election Commission has established 580 booths across 143 polling stations. An extensive team of 2,320 election commission personnel, 580 Home Guards, and 2,265 other staff, in addition to 13 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces, is ensuring the smooth operation of the polls. Fifty-one candidates, including a significant number of women, vie for positions, with BJP having a strong female representation. Previously, nine wards were under BJP control, while AAP held three.
