In a stirring inaugural address in the Upper House, Chowdry Mohammed Ramzan, newly elected National Conference (NC) Rajya Sabha member, voiced concerns over the limited powers of Jammu and Kashmir's elected government. He emphasized that substantial authority rests with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, effectively sidelining the elected body's power.

Ramzan, along with comrades Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, joined the Rajya Sabha following elections marking a political milestone in the region. Despite interruptions, he conveyed dissatisfaction with the governance structure, asserting that a two-thirds majority mandate is futile without real political power.

The NC member appealed for a revival of Jammu and Kashmir's full statehood, a sentiment echoed by regional leaders. His speech underscored the broader debate over governance in the contentious region, challenging the central government's promises and calling for future corrective action.
