The arrest of prominent Johar Chhattisgarh Party chief Amit Baghel has ignited significant controversy in Raipur. Charged with making derogatory remarks against respected figures of the Agrawal and Sindhi communities, Baghel was apprehended by local authorities before he could surrender.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai confirmed the arrest, revealing that Baghel had evaded capture for several days following multiple FIRs lodged in various police stations, including Telibandha and Devendra Nagar. He is currently remanded in police custody for three days.
The allegations emerged after an incident in October, during which Baghel was accused of inciting religious discord following the vandalism of the 'Chhattisgarh Mahtari' statue. The remarks allegedly targeted historical figures Maharaja Agrasen and Jhulelal, sparking protests among community members, including the Chhattisgarhiya Kranti Sena.
