Efforts to host a public meeting in Erode by TVK chief Vijay have faced a legal setback as local police have turned down the request, citing inadequate space for the anticipated crowd. The meeting, originally slated for December 16, was challenged after a petition was filed by former minister K A Sengottaiyan on behalf of the party.
Sengottaiyan, who has recently transitioned to TVK after being expelled from AIADMK, aimed to secure a location on private property near a marriage hall for the assembly. Notably, Erode is Sengottaiyan's political stronghold, having served as a nine-time MLA in the region.
A site inspection by Superintendent of Police A Sujatha of the proposed seven-acre venue concluded that it was unsuitable for hosting a large gathering and vehicle parking. Consequently, the authorities officially communicated the decision to deny the permission to Sengottaiyan, emphasizing the potential safety risks involved.
