In a significant display of political tension, Bhopal witnessed a failed attempt by Hindutva activists to rename public toilets as "Babar Toilet" on Tuesday. The protest was staged against the laying of a Babri Masjid-styled mosque's foundation stone in West Bengal.
The controversy intensified after Humayun Kabir, a suspended TMC leader, spearheaded the initiation of the mosque's construction on December 6 at Rejinagar in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. The incident further fueled political debates, especially among BJP workers in Ashoknagar district.
Leading the protest was BJP local leader Bablu Yadav and Hindu Utsav Samiti's Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, who openly opposed naming mosques after Moghul emperors. They advocated building mosques in honor of dignitaries like APJ Abdul Kalam and Bismillah Khan rather than historical figures involved in temple destruction.
