Thailand announced a curfew in the southeastern province of Trat amid ongoing tense clashes with Cambodia, two days after U.S. President Donald Trump declared both nations had agreed to halt hostilities. The conflict has reignited following the death of a Cambodian soldier.
Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Thai Defence Ministry, stated that while Thailand remains open to diplomatic solutions, Cambodia needs to cease hostility before negotiations can progress. Cambodia, meanwhile, accused Thailand of targeting civilian infrastructure.
The curfew affects five districts in Trat, close to Cambodia's Koh Kong province, with clashes presenting a significant threat despite calls for peace mediated by Donald Trump and Malaysian diplomats. Despite agreements, fighting resumed, intensifying the humanitarian impact along the border.
