Delhi's Labour Minister, Kapil Mishra, has accelerated efforts to include unorganised workers, gig workers, and construction workers under the ambit of social security benefits. In a high-level meeting on Friday, he emphasized aligning state rules with those of the Central Government to ensure consistency and avoid worker inconveniences.
The Code on Social Security, 2020, which is part of four consolidated Labour Codes, mandates the creation of Welfare Boards and formulation of welfare schemes for these workers. Mishra has directed officials to expedite the implementation process, ensuring the benefits reach the targeted workers swiftly and transparently.
Mishra highlighted that the Ministry of Labour and Employment has merged 29 labour laws into these four codes, aiming to protect workers' rights and promote Ease of Doing Business. He stressed prompt action from officials to finalize all necessary rules, underscoring the government's commitment to workers' welfare.
