Kerala Minister Saji Cherian found himself in hot water on Monday after his comments regarding the recent municipal elections in Kasaragod and Malappuram sparked controversy. He stated that his remarks were misused and twisted to mislead the public.
Cherian's statements indicated that the BJP gained ground in Hindu-dominated areas while the Muslim League secured wins in Muslim-majority zones. He criticized parties that advocated secularism for their poor showing, with the CPI(M) and Congress winning minimal seats.
Arguing that the RSS's brand of communalism cannot be countered with minority communalism, Cherian called for strengthening the Left in Kerala. Meanwhile, his comments drew criticism from the Congress, questioning whether his views reflected the CPI(M)'s official stance.
