Anjali Sunil Chaudhary, a Congress candidate for the upcoming Latur Zilla Parishad elections, has stirred controversy by abruptly withdrawing her nomination amid kidnapping allegations.
On Tuesday, Chaudhary appeared under heavy police escort at a college in Nilanga tehsil and formally pulled out of the race for the February 5 polls, refining the electoral face-off to a BJP candidate and an independent hopeful.
This unexpected turn of events followed a police complaint by district Congress chief Abhay Salunkhe, alleging Chaudhary's abduction. At a rally, Latur Congress MLA Amit Deshmukh accused the BJP of deploying political intimidation tactics.
