Comedian Kunal Kamra Summoned by Maharashtra Legislative Council

Kunal Kamra and Sushma Andhare are summoned by Maharashtra's legislative council's privileges committee over remarks against Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. The committee, chaired by BJP's Prasad Lad, issued notices for alleged derogatory comments. Non-compliance may result in action. This stems from Shinde's rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray in 2022.

The privileges committee of Maharashtra's legislative council has called upon stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare to address alleged derogatory comments directed at Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

BJP MLC Prasad Lad, overseeing the committee, confirmed the issuance of notices to both Kamra and Andhare fifteen days prior to the announcement, urging them to appear for a hearing on Thursday at 2 PM. Failure to attend could prompt further action.

The controversy arises in light of Kamra's previous parody mocking Shinde, and Andhare's public support of Kamra, following Shinde's pivotal move against the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, which led to a split in the Shiv Sena.
