Assam Assembly Walkout: AIUDF's Protest Against CM's Remarks

AIUDF legislators staged a walkout from the Assam Assembly after their motion to discuss Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's alleged provocative statements against the Miya community was rejected. On Tuesday, AIUDF legislators made their dissatisfaction known by walking out of the Assam Assembly, responding to the rejection of their adjournment motion. The motion sought to deliberate on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's alleged provocative remarks concerning the Miya community.

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam accused the Chief Minister of inciting hostility against the Miya community, leading to harassment and violence in Upper Assam. Islam lamented that these provocations spurred vigilantism, with some residents discouraging landlords from renting to Bengali-speaking Muslims.

Speaker Biswajit Daimary acknowledged the importance of the topic but declined the motion, suggesting it be discussed during the Motion of Thanks. AIUDF members expressed outrage and exited in protest, while Sarma defended his continued criticism of the community.
