Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has taken a strong stand against the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, condemning what he termed as 'blatant disrespect' shown to President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to Siliguri.
Chief Minister Singh, in a message posted on social media platform X, pointed out what he described as a 'deeply condemnable' disregard for constitutional propriety. The President had expressed her disappointment over a low turnout at a tribal event and noted the absence of West Bengal's Chief Minister and other ministers.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh joined in the criticism, referring to the incident as 'outrageous'. He underscored the importance of maintaining the dignity of the Presidency and respecting the office irrespective of political dynamics, highlighting the broader implications for the nation's tribal heritage and democratic principles.
