Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD national working president, called a pivotal meeting on Tuesday involving party legislators and those from other Mahagathbandhan constituents. The session, aimed at strategizing for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Bihar, took place at his official residence in Patna.
In the race for five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar, six candidates have emerged, with the ruling NDA having five nominees and the Mahagathbandhan presenting one. The meeting was a concerted effort to ensure victory for the RJD candidate, with state unit spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwary confirming the alliance's determination.
The NDA, holding a majority, lacks three votes to claim all five seats. RJD, with support from 10 other Mahagathbandhan MLAs, eyes collaboration with parties like AIMIM and BSP to close the gap. The necessity of voting arises after all six candidates retained their nomination, marking a significant vote - the first in over a decade.
