Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday criticized the Trinamool Congress's repeated allegations of misconduct in West Bengal's voter roll revisions, suggesting that the party might prefer to contest elections in Pakistan or Bangladesh due to their distrust of Indian institutions. Speaking to ANI outside Parliament, Majumdar questioned the TMC's motives, highlighting their ongoing criticism of the Supreme Court and the Election Commission.
The TMC has initiated protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), arguing that specific voter groups have faced unfair deletions from the electoral rolls. TMC MP Saugata Roy has announced plans to move an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing serious procedural concerns in the SIR process under Article 324 of the Constitution of India.
Amid these tensions, TMC leaders, including National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, have criticized the response of the Chief Election Commissioner to their inquiries about the voter roll revisions. The Supreme Court has expressed dissatisfaction, instructing the High Court to assist voters in appealing against deletions. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also denounced perceived attempts to divide the state's populace and questioned the recent Governor replacement.
