Parliament's Unorthodox Weekend Session: Adjusting for Festivities

Parliament announced an unusual weekend session to compensate for holidays on Ugadi and Eid. The Lok Sabha will convene on March 28 and 29, while no questions will be entertained. This decision aligns with previous instances of weekend sessions, notably during the Union Budget presentation on February 1.

In a rare move, Parliament will convene this weekend to make up for the upcoming holidays marking Ugadi and Eid. According to a notification by the Chair on Wednesday, the Lok Sabha will not meet on Thursday and Friday, with Ugadi festivities on Thursday and the potential Eid celebration on Friday or Saturday, contingent upon moon sighting.

The questions originally scheduled for March 19 and 20 will now be addressed in the Lok Sabha on the following Monday. In a bid to maintain legislative momentum, the House will operate on March 28 and 29, albeit without the usual question-and-answer session. The Rajya Sabha received a similar notification regarding the weekend proceedings.

This adaptation mirrors previous instances when Parliament has convened during weekends, such as February 1, when the Union Budget was unveiled. The decision underscores the flexibility needed to navigate India's diverse cultural calendar while ensuring uninterrupted parliamentary function.
